The wildlife in Goa is primarily based on the lines of Western Ghats. There are varied species of birds, animals and aquatic animals when you visit Sahyadri or the Western Ghats. The Western Ghats covers an area of about 600 kilometers giving you a huge area for adventure.

Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary :

This sanctuary is situated in the eastern borders of Goa. It is nestled at the foot of the Western Ghats and is the largest sanctuary of Goa. The total area covered by this sanctuary is approximately 240 sq km. This sanctuary has been designated as a wildlife reserve since 1969 and the core area of the forest covers around 107 sq km area.

Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary :

This sanctuary covers an area of about 8 sq km and is the smallest wildlife reserves in Goa. Don’t go by its size as this sanctuary is made into a wildlife resort. This wildlife resort houses a breathtaking botanical garden, a beautiful rose garden, a deer safari park, and a zoo. The zoo was initially made to provide shelter to injured and orphaned animals.

Cotigao Wlidlife Sanctuary :

This animal reserve is located in the border of Goa and Karnataka. The area of this sanctuary is about 86 sq km. River Talpona flows through this wildlife reserve, which is the perennial water resource of this forest. The thick vegetation of this forest draws a number of nature lovers to this park every year.

Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary :

This bird sanctuary,is named after famous ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali,it sprawls over an area of around 1.8 sq kms. The sanctuary currently teams with varied winged visitors who come to this park in search of ideal habitat. Bird lovers thrive every year at this park since this park is filled with exotic birds.

The Mandovi-Zuari Wildlife Sanctuary :

This sanctuary is a home to over 20 different species of mangroves. The varied species of mangroves also include the rare Kandelia Candel species. The park is dotted with swaps where a wide range of aquatic animals and reptiles resides.
