Dhoraji Fort, Surat, Gujarat :
Dhoraji Fort is near to Rajkot. The architectural style of the fort is almost same as the Navlakha Palace in Gondal. The huge fort has many bastions, 3 small gates called a Bari and 4 main gates. In the East is Kathiawadi Darwaja; In the West is Porbandar Gate, In the North is Halar Gate and in the south is Junagadh Gate. The smaller gates are Sati Bari, Bhimji Bari and Darbari Bari. The fort is designed like a jewel box.
Dhoraji is situated at the top of the town and there is a beautiful gate known as Darbari Bari which looks beautiful with jharokha, laid on the brackets of the statues of 4 Elephants in different poses.
Sir Bhagwatsinhji was the ruler of Gondal State and was born in Dhoraji Darbargadh. By late 19th century there were town planning department introduced by Sir Bhagwatsinhji as was inspired by the principles of European town planning.
According to the Indian Census of 2001, the population of Dhoraji is around 80,807. The total number Males are 51% and Females are of 49%. The literacy rate of Dhoraji is around 71% much higher than the national average of around 59.5%.
