Kanthkot Fort, Surat, Gujarat :
Kanthkot Fort is an old fort at the top of the rocky hill. It is five km from Bhachau Taluka and 100 kms from Bhuj. There are big blocks used to build the walls which are repaired in many places from small stones. It is said that in the eight century it was the capital of kathis and was later taken from them by Chavdas. Solanki came and ruled after Chavdas and after them came Vaghelas. Mod’s son Sad got the Kanthkot and also the daughter of Vaghela after marriage. He lived in Kanthkot and named it as Kanthdurg. In 11th century Mahmud Ghazni gave shelter to Bhimdev who surrendered to British in 1816.
There are three temples on the hill from which one temple is dedicated to Kanthadnath; the other is a Jain temple and the Sun temple. There is a Sun Temple near by which is also famous among the tourist. The Sun temple is unique as it has the idol Sun God with folded hands.
