The state’s historical evidence dates back into the era before Christ’s birth. Trade and commercial activities being the fundamentals of Gujarat, historical proofs show trade relation with Sumer and Persian Gulf during the time period 100 to 750 BC. The state proudly harbors more then 50 excavated settlements of Indus valley civilization.
Gujarat was a center point of various Muslim sultanates and has been under the kingship of rulers like Alauddin Khilji, Sultan Ahmed Shah etc. the state came under the Mughal empire following Akbar the Great’s conquer after 1576.
