Kutch Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary, located in Kachchh district, is a preservation area that conserves and protects the endangered species of Indian Bustard. The sanctuary is a home to two endangered and a vulnerable species of this heaviest bird of flight.
The sanctuary is a perfect place for watching several exotic species of birds. The desert vegetation of the sanctuary is interspersed with the grasslands that are home to unique and rare species of flora and fauna. The Great Indian Bustard that is commonly known by the name of Ghorad is in the list of Wildlife Protection Act. All the three varieties of the bustard namely great Indian bustard, Bengal Florican and Lesser Florican are the inhabitants of Kutch Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary.
Flora and Fauna of the Sanctuary : Besides the endangered Bustard, other species that thrive in the forests of the sanctuary include quail, lark, tit, sand grouse, and partridges. The sight of numerous flamingos and egrets making mesmerizing patterns in the sky is a memorable experience. The place is also the home of endangered species of bushcat. The predatory birds like Imperial eagle have also found shelter in the park premises.
The animal lovers need not get disappointed as there are myriad species of animals like desert cat, fox, chinkara, jackal, and mongoose. In addition, one can have a delight of encountering reptilian creatures including snakes and lizards.
Standing on the watch towers, visitors can have a pleasurable sight of numerous Indian gazelle covering the entire view. |
