Bassein beach is one of the most beautiful beaches of Mumbai district. It is situated about 50-60 km from the city of Mumbai in Maharashtra. The Bassein town is full of rich historical facts. It was believed to be a place meant for ship building destination for the Portuguese who seem to have occupied it at that point in time. They were believed to have been here since the 17 century after which they had lost power to the Marathas, in the year 1739. The Fort that was built by the Portuguese during their time of rule can still be viewed. Thus the beach is dotted with a number of amazing places to visit apart from the fort and the marvelous church surrounding it.
